I am currently accepting students into my San Francisco flute studio. Lessons take place either at your location in San Francisco, or in Noe Valley at Russo Music Store (4072 24th Street, SF, CA 94114). Right now, I have both weekday and evening availability.
I have loved teaching flute lessons ever since I started working with my first student in 1999! Over the years, I have been fortunate to study with many of the best orchestral flutists in the United States, and I pass that training, as well as my own ideas and experiences, along to my students.
Because everyone learns differently, my teaching style is tailored to each student's individual needs and interests. I encourage students to seek out music that they would like to study, and I teach all of my students how to practice so that they progress as quickly as possible. My students have performed in the World Youth Symphony at Interlochen, won awards in state-wide competitions, participated in All-State, and gone on to become music majors in college.
A typical lesson features any combination of the following:
* tone exercises
* scales and technical studies
* solo pieces of your choice
* duets
* discussion of fundamental concepts - like posture, breathing, sound
production, articulation, & vibrato.
The point of all of this is for you to develop the skills to further your musical expression - so that your musical decisions are based on how you want to sound, not on what is easiest to do!
I am always happy to work with dedicated flutists, regardless of age or experience. This includes adult amateurs & adult beginners - because it’s never too late to start learning an instrument!
